Violence Prevention Professionals Host a Weekend of Deep Discussion, Community Fun, and the Healing Art of Music in Asheville
The P.E.A.C.E. Team hosted the inaugural 48 Hours of Peace and Unity event, on Saturday and Sunday, June 22 & 23, at the Dr. Wesley Grant Center located at 285 Livingston St. in Asheville. This weekend event was designed to bridge divides, save lives, and cultivate understanding within our community through free community activities.
The P.E.A.C.E. Team (Providing Education and Advocacy through Community Engagement), comprised of Community Health Workers specializing in violence prevention, facilitated.
Event Highlights: Saturday, June 22, 2024 (12-3 PM)
• An 8-person panel discussion featuring men and women who have transformed their lives following decades of involvement in violent activities. This discussion provided an educational experience on the various paths out of a life with destructive consequences and offer hope to youth and adults still grappling with violence.
• The panel included individuals from across the country, including current and former residents of North Carolina and Asheville, who have successfully redirected their lives towards positive and productive futures.
Sunday, June 23, 2024 (1-4 PM)
• A pick-up community basketball game to foster community spirit and togetherness.
• Musical halftime performances by renowned rappers Mysonne General and Hocus 45th, who will share their inspiring journeys of overcoming adversity and using their platforms to promote positive change.
The P.E.A.C.E. Team (Providing Education and Advocacy through Community Engagement) is dedicated to violence prevention through education, advocacy, and community engagement. The team is composed of Community Health Workers who strive to create safer, healthier communities. The PEACE Team is sponsored and supported by Buncombe County Government and is a collaboration of KL Training Solutions (Founder of My Daddy Taught Me That), The SPARC Foundation, and YTL Training Programs.
