Ending the abuse: County domestic violence plan

A local nonprofit, The SPARC Foundation, has been partnering with law enforcement to implement focused deterrence for five years. The initiative works, says Jackie Latek, program administrator. Before engaging with focused deterrence, 80 percent of offenders involved had been convicted of at least one violent crime. After, 85 percent had no additional convictions. “Offender services goes in conjunction with victim support programs in order to prevent future crimes,” Latek said. “We’re coming at this from all sides.”
